this could be the root cause

It should be easy to maintain a healthy weight whilst looking and feeling your best - all you need to do is workout and eat healthily right?

Yeah right! That's what i thought.

Unfortunately the answer is no, or at least much more complicated than you think. If you are trying to eat healthy and working out and don't seem to be getting anywhere .... don't worry. Im not either, and neither are thousands, actually probably hundreds of thousands of people just like us!

There are so many factors that can least to us gaining weight, or moreso just not being able to loose it. Hormone imbalance is probably the most common.

High and low testosterone can make you gain weight (in men and women!)

Guys start to see testosterone levels declining around 30, where as for us girls it's around 40 years of age. I found a really cool study conducted in 2020 in US males that demonstrated this. Reasons for this would be the same for men and women and include endocrine-disrupting chemicals, toxins, plastics, opiates and other medications, diabetes, and the consumption of estrogens in our food supply, not to mention obesity the very thing we are trying not to become!

So heres what you need to know to help you spot low (or reducing testosterone levels in both men and women!! This is super important to realise and accept women have testosterone too!)

  • weight gain (especially around the middle of the body)
  • Insomnia
  • Low sex drive
  • Low energy
  • "Man Boobs"
  • Hair Loss
  • Hot flashes
  • Reduced muscle mass

You get the jist.... Reading that theres some alarm bells going off right?

Problem is some of these "signs" are often symptoms of other issues too, so low testosterone levels especially in women often go undetected.

So what do i do?

If you are in the US you can get over the counter DHEA which is a hormone our bodies make less of over the age of 30. In the UK you can start with making sure you are getting sufficient

  • Vitamin D
  • Zinc
  • Ginger
  • Ashwagandha
  • Shilajit

If you are gaining weight or having a difficult time losing it, there is a reason. Rather than feeling bad about yourself or embarking on unhealthy extreme dieting and exercise, seek to determine the root cause. If you suspect a hormone imbalance, including low testosterone, seek out a practitioner who is familiar with bioidentical replacement and who will work with you to test thoroughly and help find the dose that is right for you.
